VESUVIO

short film, 2024

VESUVIO is a documentary about the journey of L. Meïko Touraille (Pulcinella) and Alina Trionow (Oedipus) through Naples to the crater of Mount Vesuvius. They foolishly follow the strong attraction the volcano exerts on them, without knowing exactly what they are actually seeking. Perhaps it is knowledge, faith (but in what?), or an escape from their fate of an unstable social identity. White clothes, a mask and a sacrificial ritual help them to subvert the social norm, but this state is not a permanent one. During their wanderings, they suddenly realise that they embody the archetypes of the ‘fool’ Pulcinella and tragic hero Oedipus. While Meïko accepts his return to the excessive demands of city life in a playful, singing way, Alina struggles with the physical consequences.
